Earthquake Hits Afghanistan, Relief Efforts Underway

A 4.1 magnitude earthquake occurred in Afghanistan on June 29, 2023, at 17:05:05 IST. The earthquake’s epicenter was 62 kilometers east-southeast of Fayzabad, Afghanistan, with a depth of 150 kilometers. No damage or casualties have been reported so far.

Within a week, Afghanistan experienced its second earthquake. On June 22, a 6.1 magnitude earthquake hit the eastern Paktika province, resulting in the death of at least 1,000 people and more than 1,500 injuries.

Being situated in a seismically active region, Afghanistan frequently experiences earthquakes. The country is also susceptible to landslides and other natural disasters.

The recent earthquakes have caused extensive damage and displacement in Afghanistan, leading the government to request international aid for relief efforts.
