Speculation is growing that Reddy’s YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) might once again support the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the Centre.

The YSRCP has been a crucial ally for the NDA in the Rajya Sabha, where the ruling alliance lacks a majority. Their support has been vital for passing significant legislations like the Citizenship Amendment Act and the farm laws.

During the meeting, Jagan Mohan Reddy is expected to discuss pending issues concerning Andhra Pradesh, such as the state’s special status and the Polavaram irrigation project. The YSRCP has been urging the Centre to fulfill its promises made during the state’s bifurcation in 2014.

The timing of Reddy’s meeting with Modi and Shah holds significance as the NDA is facing mounting pressure from opposition parties. Ahead of the 2024 general elections, the Congress, Trinamool Congress, and other opposition parties are attempting to form an anti-BJP alliance.

Political parties in Andhra Pradesh and throughout the country will closely monitor Reddy’s meeting with the top BJP leaders. It will be intriguing to see whether the YSRCP renews its support for the NDA or decides to contest the 2024 elections independently.
