Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu needs a pacemaker. He announced it in a video on July 22, 2023.
Last week, he got a monitoring device, and it beeped today. The device said he needs a pacemaker right away. Though he feels great, he will listen to his doctors. The implantation is at Sheba Medical Centre.
He will be discharged tomorrow afternoon. A pacemaker usually lasts 5 to 15 years.
There are two types of pacemakers: single-chamber and dual-chamber pacemakers. Single-chamber has 1 wire, connected to either the right atrium or right ventricle. Dual-chamber has 2 wires, connected to both.
Netanyahu’s pacemaker will be single-chamber. His heart rate is normal, but rhythm irregular. The pacemaker will regulate his heart rhythm, preventing dizziness or fainting. The surgery is routine.
A full recovery is expected. Netanyahu can return to work right after the surgery.
