Ukraine and its allies have been urging China to play a more active role in finding a resolution to the crisis. With the talks scheduled to be held in Jeddah on August 5-6, there is hope that progress can be made towards ending the conflict.

The main focus of the talks will be on the 10-point peace plan proposed by Ukraine in June. This plan outlines the steps necessary for a peaceful settlement, including the complete withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine, the restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity, and ensuring the protection of food and energy supplies.

It remains uncertain whether China will fully support the 10-point plan, but the fact that it is sending a special envoy to the talks indicates a willingness to engage in discussions. This is a positive step, as China’s involvement could bring new perspectives and potential solutions to the table.

Saudi Arabia’s hosting of the talks is noteworthy, given its close ties with both China and Russia. The attendance of representatives from more than 30 countries, including Ukraine, Russia, the United States, and the European Union, demonstrates the international significance of finding a resolution to the Ukraine crisis.

While the talks are expected to be difficult and challenging, they offer a crucial opportunity to de-escalate the conflict and find a path to peace. The world is watching closely as the international community comes together to address this crisis and work towards a peaceful solution.
