A recent poll by the Pew Research Center revealed interesting insights among Republican voters. According to the survey, 62% of them prioritize nominating a candidate who aligns with their values and stands up for their beliefs, even if that candidate may not be the most electable. In contrast, only 38% of Republican voters consider it more important to nominate a candidate who has a higher chance of defeating Joe Biden.

According to the poll, Republican voters have differing opinions on their preferred nominee for the 2024 election. Former President Donald Trump remains highly popular, with 55% supporting his potential candidacy. However, Trump also stirs division within the party, as 45% of Republican voters do not wish to see him run again.

Several potential Republicans candidates were mentioned in the poll. They include Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who received 32% support. Former Vice President Mike Pence was also mentioned, with 22% support. South Carolina Senator Tim Scott received 17% support as well.

The poll was conducted from June 10-15, 2023, among a nationally representative sample of 1,003 adults. The margin of error for the full sample is plus or minus 3.6 percentage points.

The poll results indicate Republican voters want a unifying candidate to win the 2024 election. But they disagree on who that should be. It’s uncertain who will become the Republican nominee, but the poll predicts a competitive race.
