Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the US and gave a sandalwood box with ‘das danam’ to President Joe Biden. He also gifted a lab-grown green diamond to First Lady Jill Biden.
The gifts were exchanged during a private dinner hosted by Joe Biden and Jill Biden at the White House.
The special sandalwood box given to US President Joe Biden was handcrafted by a master from Jaipur, Rajasthan. The sandalwood used in the box comes from Mysore, Karnataka and features detailed carvings of flora and fauna.
The box holds a silver Lord Ganesha idol, worshipped as the obstacle destroyer and the foremost deity. It was crafted by fifth-generation silversmiths from Kolkata.
The box holds a sacred diya (oil lamp), an essential item in Hindu homes. Artisans from Kolkata’s fifth-generation silversmith family crafted this silver diya. The copper plate, known as tamper-Patra, was acquired from Uttar Pradesh. A shloka, or sacred verse, has been inscribed on the copper plate.
