The monsoon has arrived in Himachal Pradesh, bringing heavy rains and causing landslides. The rains began on Tuesday night, and continued throughout Wednesday. In Chamba, the rains triggered a landslide in Sihra village, which killed nearly 300 goats. The landslide also damaged a few houses, but there were no reports of any injuries to people.
Aside from the landslides, the incessant rains have wreaked havoc on infrastructure in various parts of Himachal Pradesh. In Kullu district, a crucial bridge on the Manikaran-Jawalamukhi road was swept away, severing the connectivity between the two towns. Similarly, in Shimla district, heavy flooding caused a road in Chopal to sustain significant damage while a few houses were inundated.
The rains have also forced the suspension of trains on the Shimla-Kalka line. The line was closed on Wednesday evening, and is expected to remain closed until the rains subside.
The monsoon is predicted to persist in Himachal Pradesh for the next few days.
