Cyril Ramaphosa Denies Conspiracy Against Deputy President Mabuza

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has dismissed his deputy David Mabuza’s claims of a plot to remove him from office by August. Ramaphosa addressed the media after a meeting of the African National Congress (ANC)’s national executive committee (NEC) on Sunday.

He confirmed that he had spoken with Mabuza regarding his comments and that the deputy president had assured him of his unawareness of any such plot. Ramaphosa emphasized his authority by stating that he had appointed Mabuza and he is the only one with the power to remove him.

Mabuza, who also serves as the ANC’s treasurer-general, disclosed to the Sunday Times newspaper that there were individuals seeking to oust him from his position. He revealed that a group of dissatisfied ANC members were allegedly behind the plot, expressing their dissatisfaction with his leadership.

The ANC’s NEC, which serves as the party’s highest decision-making body outside of its national conferences, convened on Sunday to address various matters, including the party’s performance in the recent local government elections. The ANC experienced significant losses in key cities, such as Johannesburg and Tshwane, prompting calls for Ramaphosa to step down as president.

Despite these calls, Ramaphosa remains steadfast in his commitment to serving his full term in office. The ANC’s NEC is scheduled to convene again in December to elect a new leadership team, and it is possible that discussions regarding the plot to remove Mabuza will arise during that meeting.
