This improvement in mobile speeds can be attributed to the ongoing expansion of 4G networks and the growing accessibility of affordable data plans in India. Ookla also noted a 10-millisecond reduction in average latency for mobile connections in the country during May.

While India’s mobile speeds have improved, the country still lags behind many other countries in the world. The median mobile download speed in South Korea, which is ranked number one, is 87.42 Mbps. The United States is ranked 20th with a median download speed of 24.67 Mbps.

Despite the progress that has been made, there is still room for improvement in India’s mobile speeds. The government has set a target of 50 Mbps for median mobile download speeds by 2024. With continued investment in 4G and 5G networks, India is well on its way to achieving this goal.
