Aryna Sabalenka also progressed to the second round after defeating Kristina Mladenovic 6-4, 6-3. Sabalenka, the seventh seed, aims to regain momentum following a disappointing performance at the French Open.

In other matches, Alison Riske, Camila Giorgi, and Madison Keys emerged as winners in their respective first-round encounters. Riske, seeded 11th, secured a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Jasmine Paolini.
