More than 91,000 vehicles recalled by Hyundai and Kia in the US due to fire risks. The recall includes certain 2023 and 2024 models of various Hyundai and Kia vehicles. Models affected are Palisade, Tucson, Sonata, Elantra, Kona, Seltos, Soul, and Sportage.
The issue lies with the electronic controller for the Idle Stop & Go oil pump assembly. This controller might have damaged electrical components that cause overheating of the pump, posing a fire hazard.
Owners of the affected vehicles are advised to park them outside, away from structures, until the recall is completed. Dealers will inspect and replace the electric oil pump controller if necessary.
The recall process is set to commence in late September, with notifications sent to the owners via mail.
This isn’t the first time Hyundai and Kia have faced fire-related recalls. In 2018, they recalled millions of vehicles due to a fuel tank problem that could also lead to fires.
If you possess one of the affected models, park it outside and away from structures until the recall is finished. Don’t forget to contact your dealer to schedule an inspection. Safety is the top priority for both companies.
