Tesla’s Open Charging Network (OCN) is a non-profit organization that aims to create a unified charging standard for electric vehicles in North America. The alliance currently includes Tesla, Ford Motor, and General Motors.

Joining OCN would be a significant achievement for the alliance, as Hyundai is one of the world’s largest automakers. It would signal growing cooperation between Tesla and other automakers, as Tesla has recently become more open to collaboration. In 2021, Tesla opened its Supercharger network to non-Tesla vehicles in Europe.

Hyundai is open to working with other automakers to develop a unified charging standard for North America. This move comes as the global electric vehicle market is expanding rapidly.

North America is a crucial market for electric vehicles. And Hyundai plans to launch 17 new electric vehicles in the region by 2025. Joining OCN would give Hyundai access to Tesla’s extensive charging network of over 30,000 Supercharger stations worldwide, enhancing the convenience for Hyundai customers.

It remains to be seen whether Hyundai will ultimately decide to join OCN. However, the move by the automaker is a sign of growing cooperation between Tesla and other automakers, and it could help to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles in North America.
