Isha Ambani, the daughter of billionaire Mukesh Ambani, has been proposed for the board of Jio Financial, the financial services arm of Reliance Industries. The board will also include former Comptroller and Auditor General of India Rajiv Mehrishi, Sunil Mehta, and Bimal Manu Tanna, who are former CEOs of Indian banks.
Isha Ambani currently works at Reliance Retail Ventures, where she is part of the leadership team. Her responsibilities include driving expansion into new business lines, geographies, and formats. She also played a key role in the 2016 launch of the mobile data network Jio.
Isha Ambani’s appointment to the board of Jio Financial is seen as a sign of succession planning within the Ambani family. Mukesh Ambani, her father, is the chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries. While her brother Akash Ambani serves as the chairman of Reliance Jio. Isha Ambani is considered a potential successor to her father or brother in leading the company.
The appointment of Rajiv Mehrishi to the board of Jio Financial is also significant. Mehrishi is a highly respected figure in India. His inclusion on the board demonstrates Reliance Industries’ commitment to good corporate governance.
The appointment of the new board members is pending shareholder approval. If approved, the board will be responsible for overseeing the demerger and subsequent listing of Jio Financial.
