Bus Carrying 40 Passengers Collides with Truck, Killing 10

A bus collision in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Tuesday claimed the lives of 10 people and injured 8 others. The accident took place near Khuntuni village on the NH-55 when a speeding bus rammed into a stationary truck.

The injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has expressed grief over the loss of lives and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased. He has also directed the district administration to provide medical treatment to the injured.

The bus was carrying around 40 passengers from Khuntuni to Jajpur town. The cause of the accident is not yet known. However, police said that the bus was speeding at the time of the collision.

This is the second major bus accident in Odisha in the past two weeks. On June 12, a bus carrying pilgrims from Puri to Bhubaneswar overturned, killing 13 people and injuring 25 others.

The state government has ordered a probe into both accidents.
