India is set to boost its naval arsenal with major defense deals with France. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit this week will witness the signing of these agreements. The deals involve the procurement of 26 Rafale M fighter Jets and three additional Scorpene submarines.
The Rafale M is a naval variant of the Rafale fighter jet, already in service with the Indian Air Force. The Indian Navy plans to use these jets on the INS Vikrant and INS Vikramaditya. Both currently employ the MiG-29.
The Scorpene submarines are diesel-electric attack submarines manufactured by the French company Naval Group. Currently, the Indian Navy operates six Scorpene submarines. The additional three submarines will be constructed in India by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited.
The signing of deals with France indicates strong strategic ties between India and France. Both nations have collaborated on defense matters for years. These new agreements will further reinforce their partnership.
Prime Minister Modi’s visit to France is expected to be highly successful. The signed agreements will strengthen strategic ties between the two countries and bolster the capabilities of the Indian Navy.
