India’s first regional train service, the RAPIDX, will begin operations this month on a 17-km stretch between Sahibabad and Duhai in Uttar Pradesh. The service will initially include five stations: Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, and Duhai Depot.
The RAPIDX is a semi-high-speed regional rail service operating on the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridors. The RRTS is a new rail network being developed in the National Capital Region (NCR) to connect key urban nodes.
With a maximum speed of 160 km/h, the RAPIDX will reduce travel time between Delhi and Meerut to just 55 minutes.
- The launch of the RAPIDX marks a significant milestone for the development of the RRTS in the NCR. This service is expected to give a much-needed boost to public transportation in the region and alleviate traffic congestion.
Some additional details about the RAPIDX are as follows:
- The trains will consist of 21 coaches and accommodate up to 2,000 passengers.
- Modern amenities such as Wi-Fi, CCTV cameras, and comfortable seating will be provided on board.
- During peak hours, the service will operate at a frequency of 15 minutes, and during off-peak hours, it will be every 30 minutes.
