The Rise of Tall Buildings in Mumbai

According to CBRE’s report, Mumbai holds the majority share of tall buildings in India, accounting for 77%. With approximately 1,000 tall buildings in the country, Mumbai alone boasts 770 of them. Following Mumbai, Hyderabad takes second place with 10% of the total tall buildings. Other cities, namely Delhi-NCR, Kolkata, and Chennai, also have a notable presence, with 8%, 6%, and 4% respectively.

Mumbai’s dominance in the tall building market can be attributed to several factors. The city’s high population density, limited availability of land, and the growing demand for upscale real estate all play a significant role. Moreover, Mumbai’s status as a major financial and commercial hub attracts global businesses and investors.

While the construction of tall buildings in Mumbai raises concerns regarding the impact on the city’s skyline and potential environmental issues, the advantages, such as increased density and improved access to amenities, outweigh the drawbacks.

Given Mumbai’s projected population growth and the sustained demand for high-end real estate, it is likely that the city will maintain its leading position in terms of tall buildings in India. As a result, there are plans underway to construct even more tall buildings in Mumbai in the future.
