IIT Jodhpur’s Solar Rooftop Project Paves the Way for Renewable Energy Adoption

NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Ltd has commissioned its first rooftop solar PV project at IIT Jodhpur, Rajasthan.The project is a 1 MW grid-connected solar project implemented by NVVN under the RESCO model.

The Power Purchase Agreement for the project has a duration of 25 years. NVVN is a subsidiary of the state-run power producer NTPC. The solar project is installed on the roofs of 14 buildings within the IIT Jodhpur campus.

The commissioning of the first solar rooftop project at IIT Jodhpur is a significant step towards promoting renewable energy in India. The project is expected to save the IIT around Rs. 1.5 crore per annum on its electricity bill. The project is also expected to set an example for other educational institutions and government buildings to install solar rooftop projects.
