This appointment is seen as a step to resolve the leadership tussle within the state Congress. Singh Deo and Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel have been at odds over the succession of the CM position. To find a compromise, Singh Deo was appointed as the deputy CM while Baghel continues as CM for the remainder of his term.

The appointment of Singh Deo is also expected to bolster the Congress party’s chances in the upcoming assembly elections in Chhattisgarh, which are scheduled to take place later this year. It is viewed as a strategic move to strengthen the party’s position and retain power in the state.
