The Punjab government has decided to amend the Sikh Gurdwara Act, 1925 to ensure that Gurbani, the sacred hymns of Sikhism, can be freely broadcast from the Golden Temple. The amendment will be introduced in the state assembly during the ongoing monsoon session.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that the amendment was important to make Gurbani accessible to everyone without any commercialization. He said that the government would not allow Gurbani to be misused or exploited.

The amendment will also give the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) the power to take action against those who violate the rules and regulations governing the broadcast of Gurbani.

The SGPC, which is responsible for managing Sikh shrines, including the Golden Temple, has welcomed the decision of the Punjab government. They see the amendment as a major step towards protecting the sanctity of Gurbani.

Although some people have expressed concerns that the amendment could lead to the commercialization of Gurbani, the government has assured that the amendment will not be used for commercial purposes.
