Rahul Gandhi Alleges Job Losses in PSUs and Government’s Failure in Job Creation

Addressing a public meeting in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, ahead of the upcoming polls, Gandhi criticized the Modi government for its alleged failure to generate employment opportunities, emphasizing the “privatization” of PSUs as a contributing factor.

In the last eight years, over two lakh jobs have been eliminated from PSUs. The government is crushing the aspirations of the youth, leaving them unemployed and compelled to seek opportunities abroad,” he expressed.

Furthermore, Gandhi took a swipe at the government regarding the surging inflation rates, particularly the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities.

“The government has faltered in curbing inflation, leading to exorbitant prices of essential goods. The common man is bearing the brunt of this,” he asserted.

Gandhi’s remarks gain significance against the backdrop of India’s persistently high unemployment rate, with the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) reporting a rate of 7.8% in 2022.

However, the government has defended its track record on job creation. Union Minister Prakash Javadekar claimed that over 10 crore jobs have been generated in the past eight years.

Additionally, the government has assured the public of its efforts to curb inflation. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman highlighted several measures taken, including reducing import duties on edible oil and pulses.

With jobs and inflation emerging as pivotal issues, they are likely to dominate the upcoming assembly elections in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Goa, and Manipur.
