Violent Incident Claims Life of TMC Worker in West Bengal


A Trinamool Congress worker named Jiarul Mollah have shot dead in the South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal on Saturday. The incident occurred shortly before the upcoming panchayat polls in the state.

Jiarul Mollah, who lived in Basanti, was returning home from work when unidentified assailants attacked him. They shot him in the head, causing his immediate death.

Mollah’s family claims that he has politically targeted and killed. They assert that he was a member of the Yuva Trinamool Congress and had been receiving threats from rival groups.

The police have filed a case and are currently investigating the matter.

This murder adds to a string of violent incidents that have occurred in West Bengal leading up to the panchayat polls. At least 13 individuals have lost their lives in election-related violence.

The panchayat polls in West Bengal has scheduled for July 9. They have regarded as a test of strength for the ruling Trinamool Congress.

Criticism has directed towards the state government for its handling of the violence. Opposition parties accuse the government of failing to safeguard its own workers.
