Man Arrested for Random Shootings in Brooklyn and Queens


A 25-year-old man was arrested in New York City on Saturday. He is accused of randomly firing at people while riding a scooter through the streets of Brooklyn and Queens. During the incident, an 87-year-old man was killed and three other men were injured.

The shootings occurred within half an hour of each other on July 8, 2023. The first shooting took place at 10:50 a.m. in the Woodhaven neighborhood of Queens. A 63-year-old man was shot in the shoulder. Shortly after, in the Richmond Hill neighborhood of Queens, Hamoo Saeidi, 87, was shot and killed.

After the second shooting, the suspect continued to the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn. There, a 44-year-old man was shot in the face and is now in critical condition at the hospital.

The suspect was apprehended at 1:10 p.m. in the Flushing neighborhood of Queens. He was found in possession of a 9mm handgun with an extended magazine.

Charges have been filed against the suspect, including murder, attempted murder, and criminal possession of a weapon. He is currently being held without bail.

The motive behind the shootings has not yet been determined. Additionally, the police are investigating whether the suspect may be connected to any other shootings in the area.

The community has been deeply affected by the shootings, raising concerns about gun violence in New York City. Mayor Eric Adams condemned the senseless acts and pledged not to tolerate such violence. He assured the public that the person responsible will be brought to justice.
