Margaritaville Resort Times Square Faces Financial Trouble


The Margaritaville Resort Times Square, a Jimmy Buffett-themed hotel in New York City, has filed for bankruptcy. The hotel has faced financial difficulties since its opening in 2021. A foreclosure auction scheduled for Monday has been blocked due to the bankruptcy filing.

With a debt of $309 million to its lenders, the hotel aims to restructure its finances by filing for bankruptcy. Soho Properties, the hotel’s owner, reassures that resort operations will not be affected by the bankruptcy filing.

The Resort Times Square is not the only Jimmy Buffett-themed hotel experiencing financial troubles. In 2021, the Margaritaville Beach Resort in Naples, Florida, also filed for bankruptcy. However, the Naples resort successfully emerged from bankruptcy and is currently operational.

The financial challenges faced by the Margaritaville Resort Times Square and the Margaritaville Beach Resort reflect the difficulties encountered by the hospitality industry. The pandemic has significantly reduced tourism, leading to financial struggles for numerous hotels.
