For about 19 seconds, he remained silent, worrying his Republican colleagues. McConnell then walked back to his office accompanied by an aide and Sen. John Barrasso, a physician from Wyoming.

Later, he assured everyone he was “fine” and had merely lost his train of thought. However, the incident reignited worries about his ability to lead the Senate.

McConnell has a long history in the Senate, serving since 1985 and becoming majority leader in 2015. But in recent years, his health has become a concern.

In 2018, he suffered a serious fall that required surgery. Moreover, he has been diagnosed with atrial fibrillation, a heart condition causing irregular heartbeats.

The cause of his freeze during the press conference remains unclear, but it highlights his age and health challenges. His future as Senate majority leader is now in question due to this incident. Only time will tell if he can continue in his leadership role.
