New US Sanctions on Russia Will Severely Degrade Its Military

The United States declared fresh sanctions on Russia to limit their access to battlefield resources for the war in Ukraine. These sanctions will prevent exporting US goods and technology useful for Russia’s military. They also target Russian defense firms involved in producing weapons and equipment, aiming to disrupt their modernization efforts.

The new sanctions are part of the US and its allies’ broader strategy to economically isolate Russia and exert pressure for its withdrawal from Ukraine.

The US Treasury Department believes these measures will impose costs on Russia’s defense industry, making it difficult to sustain the war effort. The intention is to hold Russia accountable for its aggression.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February, the US and its allies have been consistently applying sanctions that have significantly impacted the Russian economy.

However, the Kremlin insists these sanctions won’t alter their course in Ukraine, although they have affected Russia’s ability to finance the war and damaged their global reputation.
