A District of Columbia attorney ethics committee recommends disbarment for Rudy Giuliani. The recommendation is based on his involvement in a failed lawsuit challenging the 2020 election results for Donald Trump.
The committee found that Rudy Giuliani violated two legal ethics rules during the lawsuit. One rule prohibits conduct prejudicial to justice administration. The other rule prohibits conduct lacking ethical consideration.
The committee deemed Giuliani’s lawsuit frivolous, as it relied on false and misleading claims about the election. Moreover, his conduct was seen as undermining public confidence in the electoral process.
The committee’s recommendation will be reviewed by the D.C. Board on Professional Responsibility. This board will decide whether Giuliani should be disbarred. Giuliani can appeal the recommendation to the D.C. Court of Appeals.
This isn’t the first time Rudy Giuliani has faced accusations of violating legal ethics. In 2021,he was suspended from practicing law in New York for false statements about the election. Rudy Giuliani is also involved in other legal challenges, including a defamation lawsuit filed by Dominion Voting Systems, the company he accused of election rigging.
