On June 20, 2023, Senator Bernie Sanders initiated a Senate investigation into Amazon warehouse safety. In a letter to CEO Andy Jassy, Sanders accused the company of severe health and safety infractions. He claimed that Amazon’s warehouses pose a distinct and significant danger.
Sanders mentioned recent OSHA citations against Amazon. They revealed inadequate warehouse safety training and poor ventilation in the company’s warehouses. Sanders also highlighted the high injury rate at Amazon, much higher than other warehouse companies.
In his letter, Sanders asked Amazon for safety information: number of warehouse injuries, steps to improve safety, and financial resources for safety. He also requested that Amazon let its workers freely share their safety experiences with the Senate committee.
Amazon has not responded to Sanders’ letter. The company defends its safety record. It takes worker safety seriously.
The Senate is investigating Amazon warehouse safety. This probe will reveal working conditions and might prompt changes. It tests the Biden administration’s dedication to worker safety.
