Chinese President Xi Jinping will participate in the 23rd meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on July 4, 2023, through a video link. India, the current chair of the SCO, will host the summit.
The SCO is a political and security union consisting of countries across Eurasia. It includes China, India, Russia, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Iran, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, and Mongolia. During the summit, leaders of SCO member states will discuss various issues such as security, economic cooperation, and counter-terrorism.
President Xi’s presence at the summit demonstrates China’s strong commitment to the SCO. China holds the largest economy within the SCO and has been actively involved in the organization in recent years. The summit offers an opportunity for President Xi to engage with other SCO leaders and explore avenues for enhancing cooperation among member states.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the 23rd meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO will take place virtually. Nonetheless, the summit remains a significant event for the SCO and its member states, facilitating important discussions and collaborations.
