Gas Leak Kills 24 in South Africa

At least 24 people have lost their lives in Boksburg, South Africa. The unfortunate event took place on Wednesday night, July 5, 2023, at the Angelo informal settlement.

The suspected gas leak, caused by nitrate oxide, originated from a gas cylinder used by illegal miners known as zama-zamas. These miners were utilizing the gas for extracting gold from the ground.

Upon arrival at the scene, emergency services discovered the lifeless bodies of 24 individuals. Additionally, they found multiple unconscious individuals who were promptly transported to the hospital for medical attention.

The investigation into the cause of the gas leak is ongoing, although initial reports suggest a faulty gas cylinder might be to blame.
