During his private visit to Beijing earlier this week, Henry Kissinger met with Chinese President Xi Jinping and other top officials, but the White House emphasized that it was a private visit by a citizen and acknowledged being aware of it.

The U.S.-China relations are currently strained, with disagreements on various issues, such as the war in Ukraine, Taiwan, and trade. The White House remains committed to constructive engagement with China, while warning that it won’t hesitate to respond to aggressive behavior.

Some observers see Kissinger’s visit as a potential indication of China’s interest in improving ties with the United States. Nevertheless, the White House‘s expression of regret hints at possible dissatisfaction with the level of access Henry Kissinger had.

The outcome of Kissinger’s visit on U.S.-China relations remains uncertain, but the White House shows seriousness in addressing the matter and finding ways to manage the relationship with China.
