South Korea’s Foreign Minister Park Jin said on Sunday that his country will continue to “strengthen strategic dialog with China,” amid a souring of relations between the two nations.
Park made the remarks during a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to South Korea Xue Bing in Seoul. He said that the Korean administration has no reason to hate China and has no will to do so.
Park’s comments come as South Korea and China have been at odds over a number of issues, including the South Korean government’s decision to deploy a U.S. missile defense system in the country.
However, Park said that South Korea and China still have a lot of common interests, and that it is important for the two countries to maintain dialogue. “We have a lot of common interests with China” Park said.
“We need to maintain strategic communication and dialogue with China.” Park’s comments were welcomed by the Chinese government. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said that China is willing to work with South Korea to “properly handle differences and promote the healthy and stable development of bilateral relations.“
The relationship between South Korea and China has been strained in recent years, but both countries have expressed a desire to improve ties. It remains to be seen whether Park’s call for increased dialogue will lead to a thaw in relations between the two countries.
It is important to note that the relationship between South Korea and China is complex and multi-faceted. There are both positive and negative aspects to the relationship, and it is likely to continue to evolve in the years to come.
