Kevin Spacey arrived at Southwark Crown Court in London on June 28, 2023. He is facing a four-week trial for a dozen sex offence charges. The 63-year-old Oscar-winning actor has been accused of committing sexual offences against four men between 2001 and 2013. Despite the accusations, Spacey has denied all charges.
The trial, which commenced on June 28, is anticipated to conclude on July 16. It is the first major test of the #MeToo movement in the UK. The entertainment industry and the public are closely following the proceedings.
Spacey’s troubles began in 2017 when actor Anthony Rapp accused him of sexual misconduct, alleging unwanted advances when Rapp was 14 years old. Consequently, Spacey was fired from the Netflix series “House of Cards” and removed from other projects. However, he has made public appearances, including a performance in London in 2021.
Facing a total of 12 charges, including sexual assault, indecent assault, and causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent, Spacey’s alleged incidents occurred between 2001 and 2013 in London and Gloucestershire. The charges involve three men, now in their 30s and 40s.
Patrick Gibbs QC, Spacey’s lawyer, issued a statement strongly denying the allegations and expressing confidence in the actor’s vindication. The trial is set to last for four weeks, with the first witness scheduled to give evidence on June 29.
