Russia’s defense ministry announced that on July 4, 2023, Ukraine launched Drone attack on Moscow using at least five drones. Moscow’s air defenses successfully shot down four of the drones, while the fifth was jammed and crashed in the Odintsovo district of the Moscow region. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the incident.
This marks the first instance of Ukrainian drones targeting Moscow since the beginning of the war in Ukraine. The timing of the Drone attack coincides with Russia facing increased pressure on the battlefield, as Ukrainian forces continue to make advances in the eastern region of the country.
According to the Russian defense ministry, the drones carried explosives and aimed to target civilian infrastructure in Moscow. However, Ukraine has denied responsibility for the attack, and there is no independent verification of the Russian claims.
The attack on Moscow is expected to heighten tensions between Russia and Ukraine, and it may also impact the ongoing peace talks, introducing a more cautious atmosphere.
