The BBC has suspended a male presenter following accusations of paying a teenager for sexually explicit photos. The presenter, a well-known figure on the BBC, has hosted numerous popular shows.
In May, the allegations were brought to the BBC’s attention by the teenager’s family. Initially, the BBC conducted an investigation but found insufficient evidence to take action. However, on July 7, the Sun newspaper published a report containing additional details about the allegations. According to the report, the presenter had paid the teenager £35,000 over three years for the photos.
Expressing deep concern, the BBC has suspended the presenter pending an investigation. The Metropolitan Police has also been informed and is currently looking into the matter.
The allegations have received widespread condemnation. Tim Davie, the BBC’s director-general, emphasized that such behavior would not be tolerated by the BBC. The presenter’s agent has stated that he denies the allegations and is fully cooperating with the investigation.
This scandal is the latest in a series of high-profile sexual misconduct cases involving BBC presenters. The BBC faced the Jimmy Savile scandal in 2017, exposing the late presenter as a serial sexual abuser.
