The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) is set to hold its elections on July 6, 2023. As per a notification released by the returning officer, former Chief Justice Mahesh Mittal Kumar of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court.
According to the notification issued on June 13, 2023, elections will be conducted for all 35 posts within the WFI. Including crucial positions such as president, vice-president, secretary, joint secretary, treasurer, and members.
As per the notification, the filing of nominations will take place on June 20, 2023. Followed by the scrutiny of nominations on June 21, 2023. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is set for June 22, 2023.
The forthcoming WFI elections mark the end of a four-year hiatus since the previous elections held in 2019.
Currently, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh serves as the WFI president, a position he has held since 2019.
The WFI is affiliated with both the Wrestling Federation of Asia (WFA) and the International Wrestling Federation (FILA). The WFI assumes responsibility for organizing esteemed wrestling tournaments within the country. Including the Senior National Wrestling Championships and the Junior National Wrestling Championships.
The WFI plays a pivotal role in selecting and fielding Indian wrestling teams for esteemed international competitions such as the Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, and the Olympic Games.
