British MP Barry Gardiner and late theatre director Peter Brook were formally conferred their Padma Shri awards at a special ceremony at India House in London. Gardiner was conferred the award for his contributions to the field of public affairs. On the other hand, Brook was awarded for his contributions to the field of art. The ceremony was held to recognize and honor their remarkable achievements in their respective domains. It served as a testament to their dedication and impact in their chosen fields.
Brook’s son, Simon Brook, collected the award on behalf of his father, who died last year aged 97.The Indian High Commissioner to the UK, Vikram Doraiswami, expressed that the awards were a testament to the strong bond shared between India and the UK. He emphasized that they symbolized the deep friendship and highlighted the years of dedicated service by Gardiner and Brook.
Gardiner, the founder and chair of the Labour Friends of India (LFIN) group, expressed his deep connection with India when he received the Padma Shri. Over the course of 40 years, he has frequently visited India and has consistently been amazed by the kindness and hospitality of its people. Recognizing the significance of the UK-India relationship, Gardiner expressed his pride in being associated with it.
