Sony Interactive Entertainment executive Anthony Battocchi testified in court on Tuesday, expressing concerns about Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
He argued that the deal would give Microsoft too much control over popular franchises like Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, and Candy Crush, which could harm competition in the video game industry.
Battocchi stated that the transaction would be detrimental to PlayStation and consumers, asserting that it would damage competition. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is challenging the deal, claiming that it would lead to higher prices for consumers.
The Microsoft-Activision deal is significant, being the largest acquisition in the history of the video game industry. If approved, Microsoft would gain control of renowned video game franchises.
However, opposition from gamers and game developers has emerged due to concerns about Microsoft’s increased power in the industry. Microsoft has countered these concerns by highlighting the potential benefits for gamers, such as increased investments in new games and features.
If the deal is approved, it could lead to a more consolidated industry, with fewer major players.
