Odisha Government Raises DA for Government Employees and Pensioners
In a significant move, the Odisha government has announced a 4% hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) for government employees and pensioners, in line with the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission. This decision aims to address the financial challenges faced by employees and pensioners amidst rising inflation. The hike will come into effect from July 1, 2022.
Addressing Financial Hardship
This is the second consecutive hike in DA by the Odisha government. Previously, in September 2022, a 3% hike was announced. The latest 4% hike will bring relief to over 4 lakh government employees and pensioners in the state. The government’s decision reflects its commitment to the well-being of its workforce.
Mitigating the Impact of Inflation
The decision to raise DA has been taken considering the persistent rise in inflation. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for industrial workers in Odisha has surged by 10.2% over the past year. Acknowledging the increased cost of living, the government aims to alleviate financial burdens faced by employees and pensioners.
Positive Impacts and Additional Costs
The 4% DA hike will contribute to improving the financial condition of government employees and pensioners in Odisha. It is estimated that the hike will result in an additional expenditure of approximately Rs 1,000 crore per annum for the state exchequer.
A Welcome Relief
The Odisha government’s decision to increase DA is a welcome step, demonstrating its commitment to the welfare of government employees and pensioners. By addressing the impact of inflation, this hike will provide much-needed relief and contribute to the overall financial well-being of the beneficiaries.
