In a recent development, the Hindu Sena, a right-wing Hindu nationalist group, has taken legal action against the highly anticipated film Adipurush, featuring Prabhas in the lead role. The group has lodged a writ petition in the Delhi High Court, claiming that the portrayal of Ravana in the film is derogatory and deeply offends the sentiments of Hindus.
National President of the Hindu Sena, Vishnu Gupta, filed the petition, urging the court to intervene and halt the release of the film. Additionally, the group demands that the filmmakers promptly remove any scenes deemed objectionable.
Directed by Om Raut, Adipurush is a cinematic interpretation of the epic Ramayana, showcasing the legendary battle between Rama and Ravana. The film has already garnered attention and sparked concerns among certain Hindu groups regarding its portrayal of the iconic antagonist, Ravana.
The petition submitted by Hindu Sena alleges that the film portrays Ravana as a powerful and handsome character, while presenting Rama as weak and timid. Moreover, the group claims that Ravana’s wife, Mandodari, is depicted in a provocative manner, adding to their objections.
According to Hindu Sena, the film’s portrayal of Ravana flagrantly violates Hindu religious sentiments and promotes communal hatred. These allegations have prompted the Delhi High Court to issue a notice to the filmmakers, mandating their response within a fortnight.
The decision regarding a potential stay on the film’s release remains uncertain, pending the court’s ruling. However, the petition has reignited discussions on the delicate issue of religious representation in films.
