In Kyiv, kamikaze drone attacks targeted the city and its suburbs. Ukrainian air defenses successfully intercepted and downed 26 out of the 28 drones. Some debris caused damage to buildings, but no immediate casualties were reported.

Several other cities in Ukraine also faced attacks. The southern port city of Odesa experienced a missile strike on a residential building, resulting in one death and five injuries. The eastern city of Kharkiv was shelled by Russian forces, resulting in at least three deaths and 15 injuries.

These attacks occurred during a NATO meeting in Madrid. NATO leaders gathered to discuss the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. In response, the alliance agreed to increase its military presence in Eastern Europe and reiterated its commitment to supporting Ukraine with weapons and training.

The United States and other Western countries condemned the strikes. US President Joe Biden denounced the attacks as “barbaric” and “unprovoked” and emphasized the US commitment to equipping Ukraine for self-defense.

These strikes on Kyiv and other regions of Ukraine emphasize that the conflict is far from over. Russia’s willingness to target civilian areas indicates its determination to achieve its objectives.
