USWNT Ready to Defend Title in New Zealand


The United States women’s national soccer team arrived in Auckland, New Zealand on Tuesday, July 11, 2023. They have come to prepare for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, where they aim to defend their championship title. The team has been victorious in the last two tournaments held in Canada 2015 and France 2019. Their goal now is to make history by becoming the first team to win three consecutive Women’s World Cups.

Upon their arrival at the airport, the team was warmly greeted by fans who waved welcome signs. Tazuni, the official mascot of the 2023 Women’s World Cup, was also present to welcome them. Subsequently, they made their way to their hotel located in Auckland’s CBD.

Coach Vlatko Andonovski expressed his excitement about being in New Zealand. The challenge that lies ahead in defending their title. Additionally, he mentioned the team’s desire to become the second favorite team of New Zealand fans, right after the home team, the Football Ferns.

The United States soccer team is scheduled to play their first match of the tournament against Vietnam on July 20. They have been placed in Group A alongside Australia, Sweden, and Thailand.

The 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup is set to take place from July 20 to August 20 and will be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand. This is the first time the tournament will be jointly hosted by two countries, marking a significant milestone in the history of the competition.
