Edtech major upGrad is making significant strides in its global expansion efforts, venturing into the Pacific region with the establishment of a medical institute in the Republic of Vanuatu. With an initial investment of $10 million, the firm aims to initiate operations at the completely offline campus.
The upGrad Institute of Medical Sciences (UIMS) is set to commence its four-year MBBS program, accredited by the esteemed Medical Council of India (MCI), in the second half of 2023. Located in the capital city of Port Vila, the institute will have a capacity to accommodate 100 students and will be staffed by qualified faculty members from both India and Vanuatu.
This strategic move into the Pacific region is part of upGrad’s mission to expand its global footprint, having already established campuses in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia. upGrad, a leading online education platform offering a wide range of courses spanning business, technology, and healthcare, boasts over 1 million registered users and has secured more than $1 billion in funding.
