Google Appeals Rs 1,338 Crore Fine Imposed by CCI

Google has challenged the NCLAT order in the Supreme Court. They are seeking to overturn the Rs 1,338 crore fine imposed on them by the CCI. Google argues that the CCI’s order was “wrong” and “flawed” and that it did not violate the principles of natural justice.

The CCI found that Google had abused its dominant position in the Android ecosystem. They did this by forcing manufacturers to pre-install its apps on their devices. Additionally, Google was found to have used its market power to prevent rivals from developing their own app stores.

The NCLAT upheld the CCI’s order, but it did set aside four of the ten directives imposed on Google. These directives were related to Google’s app store policies and its practices with regard to pre-installed apps.

Google is now hoping that the Supreme Court will overturn the NCLAT order and dismiss the fine. They have expressed their commitment to working with the government and other stakeholders to create a competitive and vibrant digital market in India.
