British online supermarket and technology group Ocado has unveiled its first robotic warehouse in Asia. The warehouse is situated in Ichikawa, Chiba Prefecture and was constructed for Ocado’s Japanese partner, Aeon. This cutting-edge facility is capable of processing a staggering 120,000 orders each week, utilizing Ocado’s advanced automated picking system.
The warehouse utilizes thousands of robots on a grid of tracks. These robots navigate the warehouse and retrieve products from shelves. The retrieved items are then delivered to human workers. The workers are responsible for packing the products into customer orders.
This system is highly innovative and enables faster order fulfillment. It also improves efficiency compared to traditional manual processes. The benefits of this system extend to both retailers and customers.
Ocado has achieved a significant milestone by entering the Asian market with the Ichikawa warehouse. Collaborating with Aeon, one of Japan’s largest retailers, Ocado plans to establish a total of five robotic warehouses in Japan by 2025.
The retail industry has recognized Ocado’s robotic warehouse technology for its positive impact. This technology enables quick and efficient order picking and packing, resulting in significant cost savings for retailers and improved customer service.
